As the years pass by, have you noticed that
your face looks tired, less vibrant, or significantly aged? Are
you bothered by folds and creases around your nose and mouth, a loss of muscle tone and elasticity in the lower face, or loose skin and fatty deposits
under the jaw that make you appear to have a "waddle" or “double chin”? If so,
you you can restore your youthful
appearance. A facelift may be the answer you are looking for. Dr. Yannis and his team, strive to
provide information that will be helpful in deciding if a facelift
is the answer for your concerns.
A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a
surgical procedure that will improve visible signs of aging in the
face, jaw line and neck. A facelift corrects sagging, and folding facial skin and
muscles, removes excess fat, and restores firmness to create a
more rested and vibrant appearance. Dr. yannis is dedicated to customize and modify his surgical techniques to prevent that "stretched & pulled" look. Dr. Yannis takes an artistic approach
to personalize the surgery for each individual. Often, no one can
tell that you have had a facelift, yet you can appear up to ten
years younger and look younger naturally. The average facelift
done today lasts ten to fifteen years, if desired additional procedures, such as "Lipo-Lift" fat transfering can enhanse your face lift results. Follow-up procedures, or skin treatments can
be performed to keep you looking youthful for many more years.
A consultation is the first step to learn how a facelift can
improve facial sagging and aging. During your consultation with Dr. Yannis, he will explaine who the best candidates are for
facelift surgery: Women and men whose face and neck still have
good skin elasticity, as well as those with strong and
well-defined bone structure are usually the best candidates. The
best candidates also are those who are non-smokers, have no
life-threatening illnesses or medical conditions that can impair
healing, and who have realistic goals in mind for the improving
their appearance.
Before you have your surgery, Dr. Yannis and his team will explain in detail what
will take place during the procedure, as well as provide you with
specific instructions regarding pre-surgical considerations,
diagnostic testing, and medications. Also, we will cover pre surgical preperations and procedures that will
occur on the day of surgery. Dr. Yannis will discuss necessary medications to avoid before surgery and specific
information related to the use of preventive anti-biotics, as well as the use of sedatives, and localized anesthetics during surgery.
Facelift incisions generally begin in the hairline at the
temples, continue around the frontside of the ear, and end behind or underneath the earlobe. In some cases where ther is profound neck sagging, the incision may need to extend into the hair line and scalp area behind the ears. Fat and skin is then redistributed from the face, neck, and jowls. The
underlying tissue is repositioned and skin is re-draped over the
uplifted contours with excess skin trimmed away. A small incision
under the chin may be necessary to release the skin from the playsma bands as well, to improve an aging neckline.
The use of sutures and skin adhesives will close the incisions.
It will be explained to you and your designated care taker how
to care for the surgical area, as well as medications to apply or
take orally to aid in healing. We also indicate the specific signs
to look for around the surgical areas, to help reduce possible
complications during the healing process. We will also remind you
of your previously scheduled post operative appointments.
There will be some bruising and swelling after the procedure,
along with numbness and discomfort. You will be provided with
medication that can control the discomfort. The bruising usually
fades within two weeks, and after a few days you will be able to
wear camouflage makeup. Your healing process will continue for several weeks as the swelling lessens and the incision lines
begin to fade. It is important that you follow the specific
instructions given to you and attend follow-up visits as
scheduled.
At your Pre-Operative consultation Dr. Yannis will explain your specific surgery for you in
detail. He will also take a complete medical history in order to
evaluate your general health. Cosmetic surgery is an elective
surgery and your surgeon wants to ensure that you are in the best
health to go forth with surgery and the recovery process. Dr. Yannis requires recent lab tests, and an EKG. In some cases a complete physical exam and medical clearance from your primary care physician is necessary to
ensure that you are medically cleared to go forth with surgery.
